JAMES CARNEY is founding partner of Carney & Appleby, P.L.C. His practice is limited to legislative matters as a registered lobbyist and civil litigation. Jim represents approximately 30 of Iowa's major professional and industry associations, as well as many Fortune 500 companies including Meredith Corporation and Anheuser-Busch. He has represented the Iowa State Bar Association as legislative counsel since 1975. Jim was awarded the Iowa State Bar Association's President's Award in 1997 and their Award of Merit in 2007 in recognition of his extraordinary work on behalf of ISBA. He is past chairperson of NABE's Government Relations Section and was the first contract lobbyist ever to serve in that position. Jim has lectured on legislative matters on both the state and national level. Jim is believed to have been the youngest attorney invited to become a member of the Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers. The Iowa Academy is limited to the top 225 trial attorneys in the state and admission to the Academy is by invitation only. He is a Bencher in the Blackstone Innes of Court and is a member of The American Board of Trial Advocates.
