DANIEL E. BEREN is experienced both as a legislator and as a lobbyist. He is chair emeritus of the Government Relatoins Group. As a legislator, Mr. Beren served for 10 years as a distinguished member of Pennsylvania's General Assembly, gaining positions of seniority on a variety of important committees, including Transportation, Judiciary, Mines and Minerals, State Government, Elections and Apportionments, Rules and Urban Affairs. As a lobbyist since 1977, Mr. Beren has successfully secured passage of many pieces of major legislation. He has accomplished victories in the areas of taxation, transportation, banking, insurance, thoroughbred racing, the environment, and funding for health care, higher education and stadiums.
DEBORAH M. SUDER is a government relations specialist with the law firm of Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. Deborah's background includes lobbying for savings and loans, savings banks and retail operations on the deregulation of usuary rate ceiling. She played a key role in the allocation of the Pennsylvania tobacco settlement and tobacco control measures implemented in Pennsylvania and in the slots at race tracks legislative efforts. She focuses on the clear and effective flow of information to clients, members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly and their staffs on behalf of several major companies including MasterCard International and EDS.
SCOTT K. BAKER brings more than 20 years of experience to Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney PC. Serving as a Government Relations consultant, he provides advice and insight to a broad range of businesses, business organizations and not-for-profit entities. Before joining the firm, Mr. Baker was Governor Tom Ridge's secretary for legislative affairs. Prior to joining the governor, Scott was director of the Office of Congressional Affairs at the Federal Housing Finance Board in Washington, D.C. During the banking crisis of the early 1990s, he served as senior legislative advisor to the board of directors for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Through most of the 1980s, Scott served on either the House or Senate sides of the U.S. Capitol. He first served as executive assistant to U.S. Senator John Heinz and then as legislative director for U.S. Congressman Tom Ridge.
